Club Catalina Functions and Family Areas Sustainable Design

SCOPE: The project brief was to convert underutilised function spaces into open, easily reconfigurable spaces that could generate revenue 24/7 and to entice the family market with a creative friendly cafe and kid’s area. An inclusive and soft ambience was required to ensure themed functions could still be decorated in the space without conflict, but the interior also needed enough texture and detail to attractively stand alone as a cafe space when not booked for an event. The requirement was to create a design solution that was highly cost effective, multi-functional, environmentally sustainable and particularly attractive to families.

Forward Thinking Design has created a dynamic dining and family friendly space for the Club Catalina community and beyond. It has been intricately designed to bring people together, to enjoy the harmony of space and functionality all in one. Each angle, shape, material, texture and colour has been designed to calmly welcome and trigger enjoyment whilst staying neutral enough to support the decorative overlay of the themed occasions it also hosts. The flexible floor plan employs operable walls to easily reconfigure the space for any type of gathering – from intimate morning cafe meal settings to weddings and corporate events. The interior design outcome is an enduring and environmentally sustainable space that immediately offers relaxation and tranquillity, reflecting the warm and friendly service provided by the team at this community club.

CIRCULAR ECONOMY:

  • Reduce: Neutral aesthetic and flexible floor plan for longevity. Maximised natural lighting.
  • Refurbish: Existing main operable wall was re-clad and retained. Ceiling was re-painted and retained. Cafe/bar tiles, footprint and existing seating floor plan were retained where possible to minimise de-fit.
  • Sustainable Procurement: High recycled content carpet tiles with take back scheme, high recycled content vinyl planks with take back scheme, heavy duty commercial furnishings, FSC certified timber claddings, low impact certified wallpapers and textiles, programmed energy efficient illumination.
